The life staff is a base weapon in New World that scales with focus. It is currently the only healing weapon available in New World, which means people interested in the support role will want to slot the life staff. So in this guide, we will discuss the life staff's mastery tree, recommended skills, and techniques to optimize the healing and support role in New World.
The two skill trees for the Life Staff are the Healing and Protector trees.
This skill tree is focused around its name's sake, healing. The primary healing skill in this tree is Divine Embrace. It is a single target heal for 150% weapon damage that upgrades into a chain heal if allies in the area are under 50% health. Sacred ground is an AOE Heal over time that restores 10% weapon damage every second for 12 seconds. Splash of Light is the third active skill in the healing tree and it is a group heal with some built-in sustain with the Shared Recovery upgrade.
Most of the passives in the Healing tree focus on making your heavy attack a support machine. Absolved makes your light and heavy attacks free to cast. Blissful Touch allows you to "attack" allies to heal them for 20% of your weapon damage. One of the best passives in the Healing tree is Mending Touch. Mending Touch allows your heavy attack to cleanse all debuffs off your allies on hit. The highlight of the Healing tree is the passive Desperate Speed. The key passive in the Healing tree is Divine Blessing, which grants a 30% increase to healing to allies below 50%.
The Protector skill tree is centered around buffing your allies. The first ability is Orb of Protection, a projectile attack/heal that grants a 15% fortify buff for 20 seconds and applies a small heal over time. It is an aimed shot, so it requires some degree of accuracy. Beacon is also a projectile ability that creates an AOE that heals allies for 20% weapon damage each for 10 seconds. The last ability in the protector tree is Lights Embrace, a quick heal that scales the number of buffs applied to your target ally.
The passives of the protector tree follow the same theme giving you increased benefits for applying buffs and improving your healing when targeting buffed allies. Protectors Touch is a powerful defensive passive that grants you fortify when you land Light and heavy attacks with the life staff. Protectors Touch pairs well with the passive Surrounding Light and heavy attacks in the healing tree. It also pairs well with another passive in the Protectors tree, Protectors Strength. This passive allows you to heal for 10% more if you have a buff. The key passive in the Protector tree is Magnify. Magnify ties directly to Lights Embrace, extending the buffs on each ally healed by Lights Embrace by 2 seconds.
The three active abilities you will use in this build will be Sacred Ground, Lights Embrace, and Beacon.
Sacred ground is a powerful AOE heal over time that buffs all incoming healing on targets inside the AOE by 30%. This includes the healing from the sacred ground itself. The sacred ground also doubles the stamina and mana regen of allies inside of the area.
Beacon is another good heal that you can either apply to the tank or to an Enemy. This is good for fights that require a lot of mobility as the tank doesn't have to worry about staying in the AOE since it will most likely be attached to him or the enemy he's tanking. Stacking beacon and sacred ground Combine for the insane area of effective healing that can keep any and all group members at full health.
Your main healing ability for this build will be Light's Embrace. This ability heals a target for 75% weapon damage +30% more for each buff on the target.
Simply put, with the strong heals and protective abilities, the Life Staff gives players important sustainability during the more challenging boss fights and minimizes downtime between fights.
